The Things That Happen When You Keep Going: Coffee, Catch-Ups and Award Nominations
After eight months away from the microphone, we wanted to share a catch-up.
When we finished Season 3, neither of us could have predicted quite how much would happen before we sat down together again. New books, award nominations, speaking opportunities, business developments, creative projects and some moments that genuinely stopped us in our tracks. So before we dive into the conversations we've planned for Season 4, we wanted to pause and share some of what has been happening behind the scenes.
The biggest news is that Full of Ourselves has been shortlisted for the Scottish Podcast Awards in the Business category. Even writing that still feels slightly surreal. When Heidi and I started this podcast, it wasn't because we had a grand strategy or because we thought it would lead to awards. We started because we loved the conversations we were having together and suspected there might be other women who would enjoy listening in.
What has always mattered most to us is creating thoughtful conversations about creativity, business, identity, ambition and what it means to take up space in the world as women. So to have the podcast recognised in this way feels incredibly special. Not because it changes what the podcast means to us, but because it is a reminder that sometimes the world notices what you're building long after you start building it.
And I think that's something we've both been reflecting on a lot recently.
So much of the work of building a business, writing a book, creating a podcast or pursuing any meaningful goal happens without immediate feedback. You put things into the world and often there is silence. You keep showing up, keep creating, keep doing the work and there are long stretches where it can feel like nothing is happening.
I remember having moments last year where I genuinely questioned whether any of it was working. Not because I didn't believe in what I was doing, but because progress isn't always visible when you're in the middle of it. I know Heidi has experienced similar moments too. Yet here we are, looking back on a year that has been full of opportunities, growth and recognition that neither of us could have predicted at the time.
One of the things we talk about in this episode is how important it is to keep going when there isn't yet evidence that something is working. Not blindly, and not because persistence solves everything, but because sometimes the world simply takes a little longer to catch up.
The last few months have brought some incredible milestones for both of us. Heidi celebrated the publication of her debut novel, The Story of the Dear Woman, and has spent the months since speaking at festivals, running events, connecting with readers and discovering that publishing a book is not really an ending at all. In many ways, it's the beginning of a whole new chapter. One of the things I loved hearing her talk about was how many opportunities have come not from writing the book itself, but from what the book has opened up afterwards. The conversations, invitations, connections and experiences that simply wouldn't have happened otherwise.
For me, Good Girl Rebellion was shortlisted for the Business Book Awards, something that felt both exciting and deeply emotional. The book started as an idea, then became a manuscript, then became something real that people could hold in their hands. To see it recognised in that way felt like recognition not just for me, but for the wider conversation around women, business and the self-employment pay gap. Since then I've also recorded the audiobook, spoken at events including the Unlikable Woman Summit and continued building the Good Girl Rebellion movement in ways that feel increasingly aligned with the work I want to be doing.
As we were recording this episode, something else emerged that felt important. We both realised that we are showing up differently than we were a year ago. There is more certainty, more groundedness and perhaps more willingness to own our expertise. Not because we've figured everything out, but because experience has taught us to trust ourselves more.
That feels particularly relevant as we both move through our fifties. There is so much conversation about what women lose as they get older, and not nearly enough conversation about what we gain. The confidence to back ourselves. The perspective that comes from experience. The willingness to stop waiting for permission. The ability to recognise what matters and let go of some of what doesn't.
As we head into Season 4, those are some of the themes we'll continue exploring. Creativity, ambition, leadership, visibility, identity, business, self-trust and all the things that become possible when women stop shrinking themselves to fit expectations.
But before we look forward, we wanted to take a moment to look back and celebrate. Not just the awards and milestones, but the quieter victories too. The decision to keep going. The willingness to stay with something long enough to see what it might become. The courage to continue creating before there is any guarantee that it will work.
We're so glad you're here for the next chapter.
